About this trip
Namibia offers space, silence and the chance to really get away from it all: it’s the second least densely populated country on the planet, with only two people per square kilometer. You can drive for hours under huge blue skies without seeing another car, surrounded by landscapes so vast and empty that at times you feel like you’re on the edge of the planet. In an overpopulated world, there aren’t many places left where you can immerse yourself as deeply in remote wilderness areas as in Namibia.

DAY 1
Situated in Central Namibia, the cosmopolitan city of Windhoek serves as the capital of the country. It is home to an international airport and a plethora of restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and accommodation options. The city is clean, safe and well-organised, with a colonial legacy that is reflected in its many German eateries and shops, and the widespread use of the German language. Windhoek has an interesting mix of historical architecture and modern buildings, many of which are worth a look, including the AlteFeste an old fort, the 1896 Christuskirche Christ Church, and the more contemporary Supreme Court.

Stay in the heart of Namibia’s capital city with access to all the action, culture and wildlife, perfect for business or pleasure.

DAY 2
Etosha Safari Camp, Etosha South
Located just south of the boundary of Etosha National Park in north-western Namibia, Etosha South makes up the southern region of this wild paradise. Ongava Private Game Reserve shares the southern boundary with Etosha National Park and offers an array of luxury lodges overlooking picturesque landscapes dotted with abundant wildlife. The national park can be accessed via the southern entrance at Andersson’s Gate. Visitors can catch a glimpse of a variety of wildlife including lion, giraffe, elephant, white and black rhino, and a multitude of plains game. Popular activities include game drives, or watch the sunset over this magnificent landscape.

Breakfast and we leave Etosha as we drive to Otjiwarongo and Outjo, and in the afternoon first glimpse of Etosha. And after the game drive we drive back to our lodge which is outside the Anderson Gate.

Overnight: Etosha Safari Camp
Etosha Safari Camp is located 10 km south of Andersson Gate on the C 38 (Etosha National Park).
Tap toes to an African beat in the novel Oshebeena Bar and relax at this friendly Camp, 10 kilometres from Etosha National Park. 50 chalets, shaded by mopane trees, and a grassy campsite provide a comfortable home from which to explore the abundant animal kingdom. Legendary.

DAY 3
Etosha Safari Camp, Etosha South
Situated in north-western Namibia, the Etosha National Park offers a premier game viewing experience. The park’s diverse vegetation ranges from dense bush to open plains attracting a variety of wildlife. Located in the heart of the park is the Etosha Pan – a shallow depression that covers an area of 5000 square kilometres. Dry and shimmering for most of the year, the pans fill up with water after seasonal rains, making it the perfect habitat for wildlife. In the dry season, the wildlife is attracted to the perennial springs and waterholes that makes for excellent game viewing. Visitors can look forward to world-class game viewing including a variety of large mammals such as lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, zebra, giraffe, a diversity of birdlife such as flamingos and pelicans.

Day Itinerary
We will drive to the Etosha National Park. Etosha is the venue for some of the most unique game viewing experiences in Africa. Today we explore the edges of Etosha Pan in search of the abundant wildlife that occurs in the park. Lunch in a camp in the park. We continue from waterhole to waterhole looking for the diverse wildlife.

Twyfelfontein Country Lodge, Twyfelfontein

Set in the Kunene Region of north western Namibia, Twyfelfontein is a spectacularly scenic area, featuring one of the largest and most important concentrations of rock art in Africa. The name ‘Twyfelfontein’ translates to ‘Fountain of Doubt’, which refers to the perennial spring situated in the impressive Huab valley flanked by the slopes of a sandstone Table Mountain. It was this spring that attracted Stone Age hunters over six thousand years ago, and it was during this time that the extensive group of rock engravings and paintings were produced. Visitors can look forward to basing themselves at some wonderfully shady campsites along the Aba-Huab riverbed, while exploring over thirty different sites of these sacred records of ritual practices relating to traditional hunter-gatherer communities.
Day Itinerary
After Breakfast and we drive to a place of historical value and culture by the first living people in Namibia. Twyfelfontein, also known as ǀUi-ǁAis, is a site of ancient rock engravings in the Kunene Region of north-western Namibia. It consists of a spring in a valley flanked by the slopes of a sandstone Table Mountain. Twyfelfontein is Namibia's first World Heritage Site, and one of the largest concentrations of rock petroglyphs in Africa.
We will drive to Outjo Khorixas and, and have a visit to an open Himba Village, before continuing to Twyfelfontein.

Highlights
Morning
Himba Village visit
Afternoon
Twyfelfontein engravings

Himba Village
Himba Village in Khorixas, Namibia, is home to the indigenous Himba tribe, who are half-nomadic people. The people are famous for maintaining the traditional way of life of their ancestors up to recent times. External influences have not polluted them, and this reflects in the way they dress, cook, trade, interact and live. An array of wildlife can be seen roaming freely close to the village. Guided tours are offered, and guests can look forward to exploring the village in its natural environment.

DAY 4
Twyfelfontein Engravings
Set in the Kunene Region of northwestern Namibia, Twyfelfontein is a spectacularly scenic area, featuring one of the largest and most important concentrations of rock art in Africa.

Overnight: Twyfelfontein Country Lodge
Welcome to Twyfelfontein Country Lodge. A true landmark situated in the heart of one of the world’s most magnificent wilderness regions. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Twyfelfontein in Damaraland is home to one of the largest collections of rock-art engravings found in Southern Africa. Not only did the Khoi-San and tribes of ancient years leave us with a true cultural heritage, but the whole area is characterised by natural wonders such as Doros Crater, Burnt Mountain, Organ Pipes, Petrified Forest and desert adapted animals – of which the desert adapted elephant is probably the most well-known species.
Nestled along the mountainside, the lodge beautifully blends in with its surrounding environment. Using natural stone, carefully selected paint colours and thatched roofs, its design compliments the sandstone rock formations with minimum visual impact on this picturesque landscape. Magnificent views from the deck over the Huab Valley, desert plains and distant mountains provides for hours of relaxed comfort, peace and tranquility.
Twyfelfontein is much more than just accommodation; it is a destination in itself.

DAY 5
Organic Guesthouse, Swakopmund
Set along Namibia's spectacularly scenic coast, the seaside town of Swakopmund is known for its wide-open avenues, colonial architecture, and its surrounding otherworldly desert terrain. Founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South West Africa, Swakopmund is often described as being more German than Germany. Now a seaside resort town, Swakopmund is the capital of the Skeleton Coast tourism area and has plenty to keep visitors happy. The quirky mix of German and Namibian influences, adventure options, laid-back atmosphere and cool sea breeze make it a very popular Namibian destination. Visitors can look forward to a number of exciting activities including: quad biking, horse riding, paragliding, fishing, sightseeing and fascinating desert tours.

Day Itinerary

DAY 7
Namib Desert Lodge, Sossusvlei

The Namib Desert is the world’s oldest desert, and although it stretches along the entire length of Namibia’s coastline into southern Angola and even the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, the Namib commonly refers to the vast sea of sand extending from Lüderitz to Swakopmund. This vast expanse of breathtakingly beautiful sandy desert features remarkably varied scenery including, the massive red dunes of the world-renowned Sossusvlei, the moonscapes of the Namib-Naukluft Park, the stark beauty of the Atlantic Coast and a diversity of fauna and flora. This windswept, arid, ancient landscape is teeming with desert-adapted wildlife such as endemic chameleons, brown hyenas, gemsbok, jackals and seals along the coastline and a variety ofplantlife including the famous welwitschia plant, a unique living fossil. Other highlights of the Namib include: Fish River Canyon, Kolmanskop ghost town, Lüderitz, Cape Cross seal colony and the Skeleton Coast.

Our destination is the dune fields that cover the western reaches of the desert. Long dusty roads and sparsely populated farmlands offer us an insight into the vastness of rural Namibia. From the grasslands in the east to the red dunes of the west the slowly changing landscapes represent many faces of this desert country. Tonight we will be accommodated on the doorstep of the dune fields and if we are lucky, we may fall asleep to the unique calls of the elusive Barking Gecko. Lunch on the way, dinner at the lodge

Overnight: Namib Desert Lodge
Namibia’s most famous landmark, the Deadvlei at Sossusvlei, is now more accessible than ever. The Gondwana Collection brings the Namib Desert Lodge. The lodge, situated only a few kilometers from the famous Vlei, is a fresh addition to the ancient landscape.

With a spirited character and elegant finishes, the lodge showcases conscious design and eco-friendly energy efficiency, with solar being its main energy supply and a water recycling plant on site. Located within the Gondwana Namib Park that borders the Namib Sand Sea, a World Natural Heritage site, the Namib Desert Lodge is close enough to Sossusvlei for day trips and far enough for seclusion.
Dune drives, e-bike rides and simple walks to explore the surroundings, the desert has ample activities for guests who cannot sit still. The private verandas and private splash pools, on the other hand, tempt the more supine guests to forgo ventures outside for much-needed me-time.

DAY 8
Namib Desert Lodge, Sossusvlei

Located in the scenic Namib-Naukluft National Park, Sossusvlei is where you will find the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib. The clear blue skies contrast with the giant red dunes to make this one of the most scenic natural wonders of Africa and a photographer's heaven. This awe-inspiring destination is possibly Namibia's premier attraction, with its unique dunes rising to almost 400 metres-some of the highest in the world. These iconic dunes come alive in morning and evening light and draw photography enthusiasts from around the globe. Sossusvlei is home to a variety desert wildlife including oryx, springbok, ostrich and a variety of reptiles. Visitors can climb 'Big Daddy', one of Sossusvlei’s tallest dunes; explore Deadvlei, a white, salt, claypan dotted with ancient trees; or for the more extravagant, scenic flights and hot air ballooning are on offer, followed by a once-in-a-lifetime champagne breakfast amidst these majestic dunes.

Once satisfied we descend this famous dune and enjoy a hearty breakfast pack before catching a 4×4 transfer into Sossusvlei, here we will spend time on foot visiting the pans at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei.
Upon our return to Sesriem, we have lunch, followed by a visit to the Sesriem Canyon.

Sesriem Canyon
Sesriem Canyon, a deep chasm carved through the rocks by water, is a striking natural feature of the area that is best explored on foot. Stony walls rise sharply on both sides of the canyon, while birds roost in its crags and lizards dart along the ledges. The canyon’s name was coined when early settlers used it as a water source, using six lengths of leather (‘sesriem – six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the base of canyon.
